May 2020

The world is shifting. I believe this time is an opportunity to re-evaluate our lives. Perhaps we will discover a stirring deep within ourselves that inspires us to make changes in how we live, work and play. My hope is that what emerges will be people living in a way that is more authentic to who they are. - Linda

I paint for my spirit. At some point early in life I began to doubt my place in the world and did not believe I could ever be “an artist”. I was afraid of color and perceived everything in black and white terms. Painting now, as a daily practice, provides a way for me to tap into an inner resource that informs how I observe, internalize and connect to all of life. I play with color and I move about my studio space much like a dance - meditating, studying, imagining, exploring and creating. There are usually a few projects happening simultaneously, which allows me to be fluid and non-attached.

Inspiration is drawn from the natural world, animal spirits, women’s empowerment, the written word, and dream imagery. Common throughout my work is a symbolic red road or red image. In some native American cultures the Red Road signifies one’s spiritual path. The Japanese legend of the Red Thread illuminates the idea that our personal encounters are inter woven and predestined. The Bindi in Hindu culture is a small red dot often worn as an adornment on the forehead or “third eye”. It serves a as a reminder to focus inward and to keep God at the center of one’s thoughts. These are concepts that often influence my approach. The resulting work has an ethereal quality infused with emotion, symbolism and spiritual value.

My father who passed away in 2019 left behind boxes of notebooks containing word lists that he compiled over the course of his life. His brain just worked that way. I consider it to be his form of art and those are his sketchbooks. I often use his actual handwriting projected onto the canvas in areas of my paintings. For me, personally, it is a celebration of life, words and letter forms coming full circle.

The greatest and most lasting art, the impetus of it, I feel, always comes from a wanting to help. A wanting to free, and an enthusiasm to express discovery.

Each soul at some point will begin to feel all is within it and then attends, as it were, to its own inner world. That attendance may not result in anything considered tangible reaching the masses.

But the artist also becomes aware of inner spheres and mingles with them, and then puts those experiences into what they most care about for the world to see and touch if the world wants.

Linda Pasca is an artist and calligrapher who lives in eastern Long Island, New York.
In the mid-1980’s Linda was offered full tuition scholarships to both The Cooper Union School of Art and Pratt Institute. She attended The Cooper Union School of Art where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. As a student of Master Calligrapher Don Kunz she became deeply inspired by the art form. Not long after college, she went on to create Pen & Paper, a company that specialized in calligraphy and design of custom wedding and event stationery and calligraphic works. Living near the Hamptons and Long Island Wine Country afforded her opportunities to work with high profile clientele and event planners. Her work was featured and published in numerous magazines including Bride’s, Town & Country and HC&G (Hamptons Cottages and Gardens). She also became sought after for commissioned portraits, paintings, drawings and wall murals as her exposure grew.
When the event industry came to an abrupt halt in 2020, Linda seized the opportunity to change course and immerse herself in painting. One year later she had obtained a three month solo exhibition and a few galleries to represent her work. She continues to grow her exposure, as well, through juried exhibitions and personal collectors. The ethereal nature of her paintings explore subject matters ranging from the natural world and realism to symbolism and figurative paintings.
